Five things you need to know about us at Poppy and Pals, your local Maidstone pet care provider:
1. Yes, this is our full-time job. It is amazing how many people don’t believe you can make a reasonable living out of pet care. You can, but when you offer such tailor-made services as Poppy and Pals it isn’t always easy! As a small company, we are constantly working, even when we aren’t out walking dogs, scooping litter boxes, medicating parrots or doing overnight sits. We are online beavering away at advertising, blogging, replying to emails and uploading photos for our clients viewing pleasure. And just when we think we have finished for the day, we get an enquiry that needs replying to asap. Next Friday evening when you breathe a sigh of relief that the weekend is finally here remember, we are most likely working. Because your pets matter to us!
2. This isn’t just a money making opportunity. Sadly we haven’t won the lottery yet so yes we do have to charge for our services but the way we operate we will never be rich and this is why… we walk fewer dogs than some less professional services who get rich quicker because we believe your dogs’ needs come first. We never intended to let quality slip just so that we could earn more money. Sadly although we charge the average for Maidstone we often get asked to give discounts, we do offer some discounts but for some reason, we can’t get our energy provider, insurance company or local supermarket to give us a discount so please don’t expect us to give you one unless we offer it.
3. Contrary to popular belief we do actually have a life outside of animals. Well, we don’t really as it’s hard when you own a pack of exercise hungry lunatics but we try to. We have a family, and we have other interests. So although we absolutely do try to answer your 9 pm, 6 am or last minute weekend requests, sadly we just can’t always fit you in. It doesn’t mean we don’t love your pet or want you as a client it just means we need a break. So unless it is an emergency please always try to book services as early as possible to make sure we can give you and your pet the service that you deserve.
4. Yes, we really do know what we are doing. We know your pet is unique, we don’t just see £’s over your pet’s head. We see fluffy, feathered or scaly little beings with their own personality and individual needs and we would never want to put their health or mental wellbeing at risk, which is why occasionally we may have to suggest a service you may not ideally want. For example, we will never let a dog with an unreliable recall off the lead. No, they may not get to run around as much as you think they would like to but isn’t keeping them onlead better than them getting hit by a car? Trust us! We make sure to get to know your animal well, and we have been working with animals for a looong time.
5. We really don’t expect a tip or presents, but we absolutely love the appreciation. Over the years we have had some lovely presents, tips and thank you cards. We never expect them, but we do love receiving them, we have even had the fruits of someone’s labour in their garden and kitchen although our weirdest ‘tip’ was definitely a head of broccoli that was going to get wasted as they were away on holiday. We will admit to feeling a little confused of the sentiments behind that gift but we love broccoli so all was forgiven.
