What are the benefits of exercise to dogs? We all know exercise is important to our health but do we really know how beneficial it is to our canine companion? The NHS guidelines suggest 20 minutes vigorous exercise per week to significantly reduce the risk of premature death in a human. Yeah, I know, that doesn’t seem enough does it?
But honestly is that enough for your dog? Animal welfare charities say it is a resounding no! Your dog, the dog you welcome into your home, promise to do the very best for (we hope), to keep healthy and feed quality food to needs at least 20 minutes twice a day and for many breeds even that just isn’t enough.
So what improves when you exercise your dog?
* Physical health. It isn’t rocket science, your dog burns off excess calories, builds important muscles around his joints and stimulates his entire body system to work including the digestive system which can only be good for your carpet.
* Mental health. Bored dogs may destroy things, suffer depression or anxiety and most definitely do cause mayhem in the home.
* Promote your bond. A dog loves his person; you provide everything for him so go out and enjoy that countryside together, and he is going to love you even more.
* YOUR HEALTH. If you keel over who is going to provide for his every whim? Pay for his squeaky duck habit, pay for those super expensive venison treats, provide comfort during firework season, towel dry his wet, stinking body after he has rolled in fox poo.
We know modern day life is busy. You find yourself dragged from one super important chore to another but really when you decide to bring a sentient being into your family shouldn’t his wellbeing be at the top of your important list?
